Speed, Distance & Time

8 questions · EasyMediumHard

Distance = speed × time ties the whole topic together. Most errors come from mixed units, so convert first and calculate second.

💡 Quick tricks

  1. km/h to m/s: multiply by 5/18. m/s to km/h: multiply by 18/5.
  2. For the same distance at two speeds a and b, the average speed is 2ab ÷ (a + b), not (a + b) ÷ 2.
  3. A train crossing a pole covers its own length; crossing a platform, its length plus the platform's.

  1. Q1Easy

A car goes at 20 km/h for 6 hours. How many km does it go?

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 120

    💡 Distance = speed × time = 20 × 6 = 120 km.

  2. Q2Easy

A car goes at 30 km/h for 3 hours. How many km does it go?

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 90

    💡 Distance = speed × time = 30 × 3 = 90 km.

  3. Q3Easy

A car goes at 50 km/h for 3 hours. How many km does it go?

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 150

    💡 Distance = speed × time = 50 × 3 = 150 km.

  4. Q4Medium

A truck covers 175 km in 5 hours. Its speed in km/h?

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 35

    💡 Speed = distance ÷ time = 175 ÷ 5 = 35 km/h.

  1. Q5Medium

A truck covers 230 km in 2 hours. Its speed in km/h?

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 115

    💡 Speed = distance ÷ time = 230 ÷ 2 = 115 km/h.

  2. Q6Medium

A bus covers 840 km in 7 hours. Its speed in km/h?

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 120

    💡 Speed = distance ÷ time = 840 ÷ 7 = 120 km/h.

  3. Q7Hard

Kavya drives to the market at 90 km/h and back at 60 km/h. Average speed for the round trip?

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 72

    💡 Same distance both ways, so average speed = 2 × 90 × 60 ÷ (90 + 60) = 72 km/h — not the simple average 75.

  4. Q8Hard

Kavya drives to the station at 20 km/h and back at 60 km/h. Average speed for the round trip?

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 30

    💡 Same distance both ways, so average speed = 2 × 20 × 60 ÷ (20 + 60) = 30 km/h — not the simple average 40.
