Percentages
8 questions · EasyMediumHard
A percentage is a fraction of 100, so x% of a number is the number × x ÷ 100. Exam questions also run it backwards, giving you the part and the percentage and asking for the whole.
💡 Quick tricks
- 10% is a tenth and 1% is a hundredth: build other percentages from these (35% = 3 × 10% + 5%).
- If a part P is r% of the whole, the whole is P × 100 ÷ r.
- Know the common fractions: 12.5% = 1/8, 20% = 1/5, 25% = 1/4, 33⅓% = 1/3.
