💡 Quick tricks
- A perfect square never ends in 2, 3, 7 or 8.
- The last digit narrows the root: a square ending in 6 has a root ending in 4 or 6.
- Bracket the root between known squares: 40² = 1,600 and 45² = 2,025, and a square ending in 9 has a root ending in 3 or 7, so √1,849 = 43.
