Fast, accurate addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are the base of every aptitude section. Most mistakes here come from rushing a carry or a borrow, not from not knowing the method.
💡 Quick tricks
- Add left to right for a quick estimate, then fix the last digit: 78 + 65 is about 140, and 8 + 5 ends in 3, so the answer is 143.
- Check a subtraction by adding the answer back: if 5,104 − 389 = 4,715, then 4,715 + 389 must give 5,104.
- For division, estimate first (720 ÷ 9 is close to 80) so a wrong answer stands out.
