Letter Values

8 questions · EasyMediumHard

Letter value questions give each letter a number, usually its position (A = 1 … Z = 26), and ask for the value of a word.

💡 Quick tricks

  1. Add the positions: CAT = 3 + 1 + 20 = 24.
  2. Reverse positions: A = 26 … Z = 1, so a letter's reverse value is 27 − its position.
  3. Check the given example to see which rule is used.

  1. Q1Easy

    If A = 1, B = 2 … Z = 26, then WIND = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: B. 50

    💡 WIND = 23 + 9 + 14 + 4 = 50.

  2. Q2Easy

    If A = 1, B = 2 … Z = 26, then MAP = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 30

    💡 MAP = 13 + 1 + 16 = 30.

  3. Q3Easy

    If A = 1, B = 2 … Z = 26, then CORN = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: B. 50

    💡 CORN = 3 + 15 + 18 + 14 = 50.

  4. Q4Medium

    If CAT = 24, then OWL = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 50

    💡 The rule: add the letter positions (A = 1 … Z = 26). CAT gives 24, so OWL gives 50.

  1. Q5Medium

    If DESK = 78, then OWL = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 100

💡 The rule: double the sum of the letter positions. DESK gives 78, so OWL gives 100.

  2. Q6Medium

    If CAT = 24, then CORN = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 50

    💡 The rule: add the letter positions (A = 1 … Z = 26). CAT gives 24, so CORN gives 50.

  3. Q7Hard

    If LEMON = 64, then DESK = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 43

💡 The rule: add the letter positions, then the number of letters. LEMON gives 64, so DESK gives 43.

  4. Q8Hard

    If CAT = 57, then DRUM = ?

    Show answer

    Answer: B. 52

    💡 The rule: add the reverse positions (A = 26 … Z = 1). CAT gives 57, so DRUM gives 52.
